Nika is living her dreams

World renowned dancer and choreographer Nika Kljun has always wanted to move abroad and her parents, also dancers, have supported her as well as her coach Nataša Lovše. In Las Vegas, where she has been going since the age of 14, she also step danced and won gold medals, she even wanted to move to Broadway but later eventually discovered that hip hop is the thing she enjoyed the most.

And for the next three years she’ll be living in the Mecca of hip hop: “I’ve been going to Las Vegas for a few years now, I’ve been practicing a lot there as well as coached and therefore met many choreographers and others who mean something in the world of dancing and if you are noticed just slightly you have a huge chance to make something more out of yourself." And Nika has certainly made it. She is now living her dreams and aims to succeed in America mainly as a dancer. "My home is in Slovenia, I have my dancing school here, my dancers, who support me and to whom I have given so much quality over these years that I am pleased with it." Even when she lives across the great pond, she is in constant contact with her dancers and over there she is mainly advancing as a dancer. That she can now coach in European cities, dance with world stars and coach in one of Hollywood's best dancing schools is a lucky coincidence of many factors of which the first is talent and the second and most important is definitely hard work as well as ‘being in the right spot at the right time'. “The result of all this is what's important and I am aware that it is much easier because I've been going to America since primary school, choreographers remember me and through all these show's, which I've done in America and all the spots I've danced in, my name grew," says Nika. Its part is also done by web portals and because she coaches a lot in Europe her name became recognizable. “Because of all there things I can now coach in Millenium dancing school and will probably participate in a dancing reality show with the rest of the top choreographers."

In the big final of America’s talents

Nika recently performed in the big final of America’s talents and many thought how much she enjoyed it, but according to her she was very, very nervous. “This was a final show of the most watched show in America, I danced with the legendary Donna Summer and even when she stepped on stage at the rehearsal I got all stiff, but when T-pain came too it was all over for me, I was truly happy." The dancer said that everything is a lot more professional there, it’s a different system. They hired professional dancers who already toured with Britney Spears, Justin and even Janet Jackson, and among them was a Slovenian who must prove herself with each performance that she does belong into this professional dancing world. “The choreography was made a day earlier, we changed it ten minutes before the start but they don’t care, it has to be performed flawlessly and in the backstage we changed the start and off we were on the stage, live.” Even though this was one of her most stressful performances it was nonetheless unforgettable and Nika would do it again, if she only could.

‘Dancing is my mission’

When I ask her, what are the ups and downs of the dancing way of life, she only laughs and tells me that dancing truly makes her happy. She has met a lot of different people and different ways of how they communicate, travelled many countries and met many interesting cultures. With dancing she grew as a person, acquired a lot of experience and was forced to grow up sooner then her peers. "But I don't regret anything, I hardly see the down side," says Nika, who is happy to have found her talent when so many never find theirs.
